Taking off: Power Gems ballasts in China
Every Power Gems ballast is made by hand in Manchester, and most of them are shipped overseas. Or in this case, flown by air freight to China – the fastest route for distribution to lighting rental companies in Beijing and Shanghai.
Winging their way to China, the substantial shipment from Power Gems for one rental customer includes:
- 60 of the EB180P (1.8kW, 1.2kW, 800W, 575W) ballast which runs ARRI M18s, M8s and 1,200W light fixtures plus 575W fixtures.
- 60 of EB425P which can operate on any supply voltage worldwide, and power up to 4 different lamp powers (4kW, 2.5kW, 1.8kW, 1.2kW). This ballast is known for being extremely lightweight and quiet.
- 20 of the EB960P (9kW, 6kW, 4kW, 2.5kW) complete with 1000Hz Autoscan and volt drop cable compensation features.
- 15 of the EB1812P (18kW/12kW/9kW/6kW) with unique 1000.0Hz Crystal Locking mode offering further improvements to high speed filming.
The full range of Power Gems modular-designed ballasts carries high speed frequency as standard. In fact, we offer Flicker Free 100Hz, 300Hz and 1000Hz operation at no extra cost.
Over the last two years Power Gems has increasingly focused on the Chinese market, with visits to Beijing and Shanghai – introducing our ballasts to lighting rental companies, broadcast and movie studios and film schools. With the help of our Chinese trading partner the China Film Equipment Company (CFEC) we have been able to make our comprehensive range of high speed ballasts accessible to different markets.
The film industry in China continues to show strong growth, and in April Patrick predicted the increase in demand for Power Gems
