Meet The Team
Patrick McGuane (right) heads up the sales division and oversees the administrative functions. He is in daily contact with our customer base, and helps to ensure there is continuity from initial enquiry through to product delivery.
With over 25 years of experience of the international lighting market, Patrick maintains strong relationships with customers all over the world. He travels extensively to meet end-users on site, to attend trade shows and exhibitions.
Dr Phil Ellams (left) is responsible for the product design team and manufacturing operation. He has the task of developing products and is always looking at the latest technology.
Phil is a chartered engineer with over 20 years experience in power electronics research and development. He studied Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Salford University and gained a doctorate (PhD) in 1995. He has published extensively and holds a number of patents protecting Power Gems interest in new markets.
“What separates Power Gems is the people; they care about the product so they make it easy to get parts and to have people available on the ground to make sure that rental companies needs are taken care of.”
John Banner, Filmtrade
We are an ever-expanding team based in Manchester in the UK, and Los Angeles and Atlanta in the USA. Here are just a few of the team members most-likely to be spotted – by phone, by email or in person:
Production Manager, Allison (left), oils the wheels of the shop floor, always busy looking after our team of engineers and skilled assemblers who construct and test the product on site in Manchester. She won’t rest until your order is safely in the shipping department.
Carlos (right) is based in our LA facility and provides technical support across the US West Coast. Carlos ran his own business fixing guitar amplifiers before joining Power Gems in 2001. A veteran of the Power Gems School of troubleshooting, he’ll help you make effective use of your ballasts, reduce down time and speed up the diagnosis of problems. Carlos loves live music and when not wielding a soldering iron, can often be found playing guitar in his own band.
Chip (left) has worked in the film and TV lighting business in excess of 30 years. Chip spent his early career with LTM Lighting and Cinemills Corporation before joining Power Gems more than 15 years ago. Chip is general manager for US, based in Los Angeles.
Dan’s (right) arrival in October 2014 coincided with the opening of our Atlanta facility. That was no coincidence, given his key role in supporting those of you in the Midwest, North East and Southern States of America. Born and raised near Chicago, Dan’s career has resulted in repeated moves from east to west coast and back to take on new roles. While which coast is best, is still up for debate, he has chosen to come to rest at Power Gems.
Giles (left) is well-known to technicians all over the world. He keeps in regular contact with customers in remote locations, spending the day answering your technical questions by email. Think of him as a pen pal, but one with 20+years’ knowledge of Power Gems products.
Kevin (right) of RatPac Dimmers provides technical support for Power Gems products in the South East of America, and shares our premises in Atlanta. Bringing many years of technical experience developing lighting technology, Kevin won’t just solve your problem, but tell you about the latest advances in technology and Power Gems features that will help you get the best from your ballast.
Kimberley (left) ensures the smooth shipment of our products worldwide and the day-to-day operation of the office. She likes to practice her German, French and Spanish whenever possible, and is also highly articulate in getting Power Gems ballasts from Manchester safely delivered to Timbuktu and beyond. A fan of Formula 1, she’s most likely to be heard muttering, it’s go, go, go…and they’re off.
Michaela (right) looks after our accounts and controls our finances, deftly dealing with invoice queries and processing payments from our HQ in Manchester. A keen supporter of Manchester United, Michaela has been known to crunch numbers in her sleep.
Michael ‘Edge’ Frackoviak (left) and Eddie Pischel of 4 Wall’s technical team in New York give Power Gems customers on the East Coast of America the best repair service possible. Eddie and Edge, two great guys, are fully factory trained in the repair, servicing and maintenance of the entire range of Power Gems products.
