New arrival: Boost 2.5-6V USB or Li-on cell to 12V LED ribbons
Enjoy the small pleasure of having exactly the right LED accessory for the job with GEMboost by Power Gems.
Launched as a prototype at the BSC Expo in London in February and then taken State-side for Cine Gear in Los Angeles in June, we are now taking orders for GEMboost.
In fact, GEMboost is already out with a major rental company for location filming. But what is it, I hear you say, tapping your foot with impatience, because we all have short attention spans.
Almost as short as the 59mm x 46mm x 21mm device. Now, what were we saying? Ah yes.
What is GEMboost?
The GEMboost is designed to allow 12V LEDs or LED ribbon to be powered from a convenient USB Power Bank or Li-Ion cell for those times when a mains PSU or 12V battery isn’t available. The unit will operate right down to 2.5V, so a single Li-Ion cell is sufficient in compact applications such as building into props. The circuit has protection against excessive input voltage, output current, and temperature. The GEMboost provides up to 15W of compact built-in power, protected against the harsh operating conditions found on a film and TV sound stage.

Power Gems has invested heavily in developing what we believe is safe to assume are the world’s first off-the-shelf solutions for two pesky problems – reliability, size and compact power.
How is this possible?
We could show you a worker trying to keep up as a mega-machine spews out hundreds of cheap devices round-the-clock.
Personally, we feel the scale of assembly should match the human size of the devices.

All our LED devices are constructed with skill and attention, and tested on-site by a team of fully qualified engineers and skilled assemblers. Each tiny GEMboost and our other newbie, the GEM6mini 6-way LED controller (shown below), is made by hand at our headquarters in Manchester, England.
