Back into training mode for MBS Equipment Company

We had to get the visitor’s cups out, as Power Gems held the first training event in a long time.

Last week, Power Gems welcomed Jamie Powell, George Mathews and Daniel Scalatchi from MBS Equipment to our HQ in Manchester for training.

There’s been a gap of three years since the last time MBSE visited for in-house training for obvious reasons. During that time, Pinewood MBS Lighting became MBS Equipment Co UK and announced plans to open a studio complex in Dagenham, East London.

Power Gems were happy to supply MBS Eastbrook Studios with all the ballasts required for this new exciting project. Over half a million pounds worth of HMI ballasts: EB1812P (6kW–18kW), EB425PL (1.2kW–4kW), EB180P (575W/800W/1.2kW/1.8kW) and the highest-powered ballast for location filming, the EB241812P (6kW–24kW).

Of course, we continue to service MBS Equipment Co, headquartered in Sylmar, California, from our facility in Santa Clarita.

Phil is always working on new innovative products such as the LED range. So, we had plenty to show our guests – the basis of the modular design, the ease of switching over modules, fault finding and troubleshooting. We could go on.

In fact, we did go on, for three days in total. And we take it as a good sign that MBSE want to send another three technicians up from Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire in March.

Seven years ago, our engineer, Kevin – pictured above – appeared in A Day In the Life of a LF150P Module – the 10,000 Module (2:39mins)

We created the film when Power Gems reached an exciting milestone. In 2015, the 10,000th L150P module trundled off the production line. The L150P powers hundreds of HMI ballasts sold every year.

Watch the film to follow the journey from components arriving at the door, through all stages of production, to the finished ballast exiting the building, shipped to PKE Lighting. You’ll be given a whistle-stop tour of the assembly line and testing facilities at Power Gems headquarters.

Each year we provide enhanced training and a behind-the-scenes tour as part of the after-sales service. As MBSE are busy hiring, our test engineers are happy to give new film and TV professionals training on Power Gems equipment.

Get in touch if you need support. At Power Gems we’re here to help you troubleshoot and resolve problems fast.
