Back to China – Power Gems at BIRTV 2019
At BIRTV in Beijing, China, a week ago, Patrick McGuane had a fantastic time meeting customers, alongside Kevin Liu of the China Film Equipment Company (CFEC).

CFEC is the official Power Gems distributor and our trusted partner, and Kevin was well-placed to attend the global broadcasting show, from their Head Office in Beijing.
Patrick and Kevin were kept busy demonstrating the next generation of high speed ballasts featuring autoscan, crystal locking mode and flicker-free operation.
Power Gems has been exhibiting at the Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Exhibition (BIRTV) since 2015 and our initial efforts to satisfy demand from Mainland China for 1000Hz high speed ballasts.
After four years of Kevin’s technical know-how of our range and the back-up of the Power Gems service centre in Shanghai, we’re firmly-established in the broadcasting industry. The reputation for Power Gems has gone beyond studios and lighting rental companies to film academy schools and the Chinese Society of Cinematographers.
While there has been a slowdown in Chinese film production this last six months, judging by the intense and energetic conversations held at the CFEC stand, next year seems to be gearing up nicely.

“The country has more than 60,000 movie screens, the most of any nation on Earth, almost all built within the last 10 years. It boasts more paid subscribers to streaming-video services than the rest of the globe combined, and Netflix doesn’t even operate there.”
BIRTV, held over four days (20th to 24th August 2019), was rounded off with a vendor dinner hosted by CFEC. This year everyone was too busy having a good time to pose for a photo. However, you can get a flavour of the night from last year’s Power Gems ballasts at BIRTV 2018. This year guests included representatives from GFM, Rosco, Kino Flo and KFX Technology.
