Power Gems ballasts to New York for Film Trade’s Red Hook
If ballast sales are an accurate barometer of the state of the global film industry, we’d say it is fairly buoyant in most places; New York is one area with little downturn in business.

The latest shipment of Power Gems ballasts to John Banner at Film Trade Miami reflects the picture as we emerge from COVID. His batch of:
- EB180P (1.8kW, 1.2kW, 800W, 575W) ballasts which runs ARRI M18s, M8s and 1,200W light fixtures plus 575W fixtures; and
- EB960P (9kW, 6kW, 4kW, 2.5kW) complete with 1000Hz Autoscan and volt drop cable compensation features
are destined for rental to film and TV productions on the East coast, primarily New York.
Film Trade is one of Miami’s biggest rental companies, and John’s been around for 30 years. Three years ago, he opened a new location in Red Hook, Brooklyn; FTNYC is fully operated with years of knowledge and equipment rental experience.
“The New York office has been very busy, especially servicing in-studio, for HMI lights,” John says of the shift away from location-filming to shows and movies produced under strict COVID conditions.
“The Miami office has been steady, but Florida is not getting the movie or TV work that was coming to shoot when there were incentives from the state.”
