Back with my Power Gems family after 16 years – Jeremy Walsh, General Manager

In October 2018, Jeremy Walsh returned to Power Gems after an absence of 16 years. Check out the best throwback picture of his time in the LA office in Sun Valley in 1996, which we found while moving offices from Van Nuys to Santa Clarita. Here Jeremy updates us on what’s happening in the here and now.

What’s so special about 2 April 2019? This date marks the six month anniversary of my being back in the saddle with Power Gems. It also, coincidentally, marks the first year at our new facility in Santa Clarita, CA, USA.

But I’m also enjoying the transition back to providing product service and technical support for all of you who use Power Gems ballasts.

My new role as General Manager/Principal Engineer means I get to flex muscles in areas I’ve not explored in the past. Sales are one of these areas; each day I get to ask questions of our engineers back in Power Gems HQ in Manchester (UK), to be able to advise you on the best ballast for your particular needs; and introduce you to all the bells and whistles on the Power Gems product line.

It puts a smile on my face because I know what you’re getting. Power Gems ballasts have significantly evolved in recent years with the onset of high speed filming and keeping up with all the demands of modern-day film shoots.

I left for 16 years, and in that time both myself and the company have grown and learnt a thing or two. Working as National Director of Rental Maintenance for one of the largest equipment rental houses (William F White in Canada) has provided extra insight into what customers want and need, and the demanding timelines it needs to happen.

I’m taking everything that I’ve learnt, as well as bringing a fresh perspective, to give you a top-notch after-sales service. Or at least, that’s the plan, no doubt you’ll let us know how we’re doing!

By ‘we’, I mean, the best team ever: Kevin Neak in Atlanta and Chip Harley in Los Angeles along with our new hire Francis Cuevas (pictured below), a graduate engineer from CSUN. Together we’re putting a lot of time and effort into being able to respond to your inquiries more quickly.

I’m also looking forward to my first trade show with Power Gems since 2002, when we exhibit at Cine Gear on 31 May. See you there? If you are planning to be in Los Angeles – let’s catch up.

And what of the future? A new range of high-power LED power supplies. But that’s another story, for another day.
