One change of clothing, one change of ownership: BSC Expo and February Freeze 2020
BSC Expo is the UK’s, and now probably Europe’s, premier dedicated film and TV production trade show. For the first time, this year the BSC Expo opened its doors to a VIP guest list on the Thursday afternoon (30 January 2020). This sneak preview proved to be a great success and will, no doubt, be repeated in 2021 when the show returns to Battersea.
Attendance figures rocketed with over 5,500 visitors on the first full day, the Friday. Beating last year’s attendance for both days; the second day Saturday was also heaving, as you can see from the photo.
Power Gems, as always, likes to turn out to support the British Society of Cinematographers and the UK industry and treats this, the first trade show of 2020, as a great opportunity to showcase our new range of LED power supply and driver products.
Patrick flew straight from the BSC Expo to William F White’s February Freeze, quite literally via one change of clothes and an international dateline. The ballasts barely had time to settle into their crates before he was setting up the booth in Toronto, ready to demonstrate their innovative features to visitors on Tuesday, 2 February. The show attracted record crowds, many beating a path to our door – shortly after this picture was taken!
There was one big change this year – no snow! You can see the extreme weather that normally serves as a reminder that we’re no longer in London. Temperatures of minus 18C prove a challenge even for our weather-resistant ballasts.
The other change worth mentioning is to the ownership of William F White.
Towards the end of 2019, chairman and CEO, Paul Bronfman, announced the sale of the Canadian film, TV and digital production equipment rental giant, to the Ashtead Group through an affiliate of its subsidiary, Sunbelt Rentals of Canada Inc.
Whites, which employs more than 450 people, operates out of 13 locations across Canada – all lighting rental houses fully equipped with Power Gems high speed ballasts, we might add!
