New from Power Gems – a pink table lamp?

GEMwash, GEM6, GEMtile; it was hard to be everywhere all at once at BSC Expo 2024 in London from Thursday, 15 through to Saturday, 17 February.

But, with his usual flair and charm, Patrick (below) made it look easy, skilfully demonstrating the full range of Power Gems LED products.

The Friday (16 February) saw lots of high-level technical chat between Phil and folk. They were attracted to the possibilities of embedding GEMmicro and GEMboost as bare PCBs in their configurations for on-set practicals. Phil enjoyed getting into the nitty gritty, while fellow electronic experts seemed to appreciate being able to talk to the product designer about technical specifications of the latest two additions.

GEMmicro

The GEMmicro is a 4-channel LED drive with wireless DMX control and over-current protection to drive off-the-shelf LED Ribbons and COBs easily. This is the best value for those of you looking to embed a PCB in an enclosure and when you don’t need all the channels supplied with the bigger units such as our GEM6.

GEMboost

The GEMboost does what it says on the tin; it will boost 2.5-6V from a Li-ion Cell or USB Power Bank to a fixed 12V supply (standard LED ribbon voltage), up to 15W of compact built-in power.

Want to know more about enclosing the GEMmicro and GEMboost in set practicals? Let’s start a conversation. Get in touch.

This is Not a Table Lamp

For those of you looking for an off-the-shelf solution, the table lamp could make you wonder if we have strayed too far from our roots. Yes, Power Gems have been known for our high speed HMI lighting ballasts since 1991, most recently developing a line of LED power supplies and controllers. But lighting for the home?

As the Belgian surrealist painter Rene Magritte famously said of his image of a pipe ‘This is not a pipe’.

We hid the completely wireless GEMboost and GEMmicro inside the frankly ugly-chintz table lamp because you need light sources designed to be seen in frame, and both products are small enough to fit inside props for set and stage.

After another busy, fun and frentic BSC Show, it was time to pack up. Phil was glad to get the lamp into his laboratory, to be gutted and upcycled into something he’s calling the GEMradio. Watch this space.
