First batch of GEM6 rolls off assembly line in Manchester
The first batch of GEM6 by Power Gems hit the shopfloor at our assembly and manufacturing facility in Manchester, England, on 4 September.
Proudly made by hand in Britain, the GEM6 is a rugged and compact six-way controller for full-colour LED control or three channels of bi-colour.
These particular beauties are destined for rental house Sunbelt Rentals, formerly PKE Lighting. And there’s no chance of them getting lost, thanks to the laser-etched branding, which helps identify the owner. The GEM6 is capable of handling the highest power jobs, small enough to be hidden discreetly on set.
The latest addition to the Power Gems LED range complements the PWM40 40-channel LED controller, thought to be the world’s first for use at high power (3kW). The PWM40 was released last November, following a special request by NBC Universal.
Welcoming the new product off the assembly line, Power Gems owner and head of design Phil Ellams explains the thinking behind the GEM6:
“The GEM6 addresses the distributed way of controlling LED rather than the centralised way, which is the PWM40. You can easily mix those two approaches on the same set. Using lots of small units, like the GEM6, near the point of use can help with cable layout and volt drop. It has a higher current (10A) per channel than the PWM40 (8A), so it’s a very capable unit.”
The GEM6 controller, with six controllable channels and an input range of 12V to 24V, offers a wide range of ways to control LED ribbons and other LED-based fixtures.
Key features
- Six output channels
- Market-leading 10A per channel (max 40A total)
- DMX/Lumen radio CRMX or local control
- Drives 12V or 24V LED strings
- Comprehensive short circuit protection
