Michal of Power Gems celebrates a degree of success
Michal Nazarewski of Power Gems has graduated at a ceremony in Manchester, the culmination of three years hard work combining vocational learning with ballast assembly and testing.
Michal graduated with an HNC Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Trafford College, in an awards ceremony at the Radisson Blu Manchester Airport.
In 2015, Michal, aged 32, came to work at Power Gems on the production line, assembling ballasts.
Shortly after, he started attending college on day-release sponsored by Power Gems, part of our investment in developing and growing our own talent.
Over the last three years, he has progressed from a BTEC Level 3 Diploma to an HNC, gradually spending less time in ballast assembly and more in product testing, applying his new skills.
Michal got off to a great start with an A* on his first assignment and kept the same high standard throughout.
Power Gems co-owner, Phil Ellams, who has responsibility for product design, says: “Michal was rightly proud to get a distinction for his final year project. We’re extremely proud of his hard work and achievement, it shows his real passion and dedication to power supplies.”
Michal’s final year project was to research power supplies, their protection and control using programmable microchips with industry-standard protocols.
A smiling Michal says: “I enjoyed the project classes the most, as I could learn to design and develop complete projects from scratch. I had the opportunity to research, simulate, test and then implement new ideas. The whole process allowed me to gain invaluable practical experience and proved to be interesting at the same time, vastly expanding my horizons in a very enjoyable way.”
Michal plans to continue his education either at Trafford College or Manchester. His younger brother, Jacob, is moving to Manchester to study Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester.
Michal now works almost exclusively as a Test Engineer in the expanded Test Department in Manchester. He is one of our team of engineers who test the ballasts before they are dispatched and assist with technical queries by email and telephone. So you may well speak to Michal, a man who knows how ballasts are put together and who shares our enthusiasm for Power Gems.
