Wash this way – ready, steady, go GEMwash!

Never mind the news that the Moon is getting its own time zone, or that we just lost an hour to British Summer time, all the talk in Manchester is about the launch of the brand new GEMwash.

At Power Gems, we’re celebrating the first shipment of GEMwash, our broadcast-quality LED wash fixture ideal for economic blue and green screen or wide-area lighting. Fully dimmable down to zero and 100% flicker-free even when dimmed, GEMwash is perfect, especially for high-speed shooting.

After one last check by Kevin Eckersley (pictured), test engineer and member of the technical team, to make sure they’re ready, the first order left our Manchester facility and went to a UK rental company. From there, the latest addition to our range of LED controllers and fixtures is destined go out for location filming.

An innovative design for efficient heat dissipation to ensure the long lifespan of LEDs, advanced technology for accurate colour rendering, and flicker-free as you’ve come to expect from Power Gems – the GEMwash is everything you want in an LED wash light.

The lightweight GEMwash can be suspended from a rig or mounted on a stand for lighting blue or green screens. Look at the stack of GEMwash on the trolley, squint your head, narrow your eyes, and use your imagination to see how this would look. Or take a peek at the GEMwash below.

The new GEMwash. More fit than GEMflo

The GEMwash is a new take on the fluorescent retrofit fixture, GEMflo, which we designed to replace other manufacturers’ standard fluorescent tube fixtures with LED. Rather than provide something that wasn’t there when it was manufactured, we have designed an energy-efficient light source from scratch.

But, you may recognise the metalwork if you have been following the journey* of GEMflo since 2021 when it was first used on location for filming All Creatures Great and Small for Channel 4, and more recently, making the Goblins dance for the Christmas special of Doctor Who for the BBC
