UK lighting rental round up
In recent years the UK lighting rental sector has benefited from the UK’s worldwide status as a location for film production. The tax regime has been very effective in attracting Hollywood studios to make films here. The Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) is widely viewed as a success, helping fund films in Britain, from over 10 years of the Harry Potter, to the latest Star Wars via Mission Impossible I and II and Brad Pitt’s zombie-fest World War Z to name but a few (but all using Power Gems products).
However, although it is boom time for the film industry the lighting rental market remains highly competitive with daily rates continually under pressure. Additionally there is a constant flow of new lighting equipment coming to market which rental companies are obliged to make available. This is where Power Gems is able to help; our ballasts come with 2 output connectors each of which can drive multiple fixture types. So you don’t necessarily need to buy a ballast for every new light head you purchase – one ballast can do the job of many, keeping your inventory lower, and making them more flexible for use as backups.
With 20 years experience of designing and manufacturing ballasts we have become trusted by the biggest names in the industry. We rebadge for some of the largest rental fleets, and In the UK all the leading companies use Power Gems – Cinelease, Panalux, PKE Lighting and Warner Brothers.
Mike Pollard, Managing Director of Manchester-based PKE Lighting says: “We only buy equipment from reputable manufacturers. With such a large demand for rental equipment, we value our long term partnership with Power Gems. New and innovative solutions are in good supply, every model comes fully customised and guaranteed to be a high quality product that can withstand the wear and tear our customers put on it.”
In an increasingly safety conscious world, event organisers are asking for independent certification of lighting equipment, such as TÜV accreditation for red-carpet events.
Three models from our range are TÜV approved, the EB125P, EB180P and EB425P. We are working through our range and look forward to our entire family of electronic ballasts bearing the TÜV quality label. As always with Power Gems we offer the latest technology at a competitive price. Get in touch to find out more.
