The Power Gems LF150P 20,000 milestone

For as long as we can remember, the LF150P module has been a critical component for the manufacture of Power Gems ballasts, and in April 2018 we reached a key milestone when the 20,000th rolled off the production line.

In the past three years, production has doubled to keep up with the demand for Power Gems ballasts from around the world. When you consider that 50% of ballasts we manufacture contain the LF150P module, it’s perhaps not surprising, but we didn’t expect to reach this point quite so soon.

In May 2015, we welcomed the 10,000 module off the production line. You can see more by watching the short film A Day In The Life of the LF150P module – the 10,000 Module

Since then, we have introduced several new additions to the Power Gems family of ballasts. Including:

  • A range of ballasts for Xenon lamps including the DC300P 3kW ballast which can be tuned down to 1kW, and can be paralleled to operate 7kW or 10kW+ lamps. This ballast is perfect for the largest follow spots used in arena and theatre lighting.

  • The EB57P, one ballast which can power 200W, 400W and 575W lighting fixtures by four different manufacturers: ARRI, Dedo, Kobold and K5600 Lighting.

  • For maximum versatility, the EB180PD which can typically drive 6 different lamp types using universal AC mains 95-265V, and also battery power from 48 to 60V.

Half of Power Gems ballasts use the LF150P module designed by Phil, based on the latest silicon carbide power device technology. Quality is more important than ever, and the reason why we have our own design and manufacturing capabilities in Manchester. The ballasts are all constructed and tested on site by a team of fully qualified engineers and skilled assemblers.

“By keeping direct control over the ballast capabilities, we can offer the best models at a competitive price,” says Phil.

As production reaches 20,000, Phil looks back proudly at what has been achieved.

“We have grown from producing a couple of ballasts to manufacturing-at-scale for 20 different product lines. The common thread across all models is the LF150P, and the next generation of Power Gems is no exception.”
