Power Gems launch new range of ballasts for Xenon lamps – why did we do that?

When Power Gems first mentioned embarking on a major development project to redesign the Xenon ballast range there were a few raised eyebrows. ‘Is Xenon still relevant?’ we were asked.

True, Xenon has become an uncommon technology in the film location lighting market, but there are many other niche applications still benefitting from the unique properties of Xenon lamps.

As part of the launch of the range of ballasts for Xenon lamps, Patrick and Phil have been touring the US and Europe to demonstrate the new DC300P 3kW Xenon Ballast. During their travels they were impressed by the pockets of activity and creativity taking place in the Xenon market. There are the well-known applications in entertainment (followspots and effects fixtures), architectural, and a host of less visible industrial applications such as solar simulation, lithography, and curing.

The DC300P can be tuned down to 1kW, and can be paralleled to operate 7kW or 10kW+ lamps, making it the ideal tool for most jobs. It’s also perfect for the largest follow spots used in arena and theatre lighting.

Do you use Super Trouper or Gladiator followspots? Are you looking for lightweight, reliable replacement ballasts? We will have something to show you in June.
