Power Gems at Gearhead’s first Open House, Portland, Oregon
On Saturday 6 August, Power Gems exhibited the latest HMI ballasts at a lighting and grip rental house’s first annual Mini Gear Expo, in Portland, Oregon. The generous hosts, Gearhead Grip & Rental, services feature films, television shows and commercials that come to the Portland area. Basically, everything you need for your next shoot, including Power Gems.
With the State’s recent increase (see Shooting in Oregon), albeit modest, to film incentives, from US$10 million to US$14 million, things stay pretty busy round Oregon way. The Open House was well-attended by production professionals from all over the Pacific Northwest, a mixture of end-user from the electric and grip side of the aisle, to producers, assistant directors, camera operators, directors and even the occasional dog (see below).
The event delivered what Joel Stirnkorb, Gearhead’s Managing Partner, always wanted to do for the local film community – throw a great party. As promised, there was great food, libations and live music. A BBQ, generous bartender and some good local brews, made for a highly social day.
Good friends of Power Gems, K5600 Lighting, and manufacturers of balloon light technology, Airstar, were among the vendors, both big and small, to exhibit and demonstrate the latest in film lighting equipment. Joel and his team, including Tiffany, made us feel at home.
