Dr Who chooses GEMflo for The Sea Devils showdown

If you thought the latest episode of Doctor Who, the world’s longest running sci-fi series, was dark, you would be right, as the story follows the trio of friends fighting the Sea Devils.

However, the filming took place under ideal lighting conditions due to the array of LED GEMflo, the retrofitting system Power Gems developed for Liteflo fittings.

The first of four standalone stories, the Legend of the Sea Devils, aired on BBC One on 17 April 22, with the action set in the South China sea and most of the filming taking place in Wales.

Our old friends PKE Lighting supplied the production team with the lighting equipment used to transform the soundstage at Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff.

Much of the action takes place on a swashbuckling pirate boat, which was built as part of a full-scale, elaborate set. The GEMflo is a fixture for suspending from a rig or putting on a stand primarily for lighting blue or green screens, so it makes a nice change to see a different application.

Jodie Whitaker will regenerate this autumn in a centenary episode. In the meantime, if you want to regenerate your 8×4 tube configuration to full LED, please do get in touch.

And yes, we did make a shameless plug for the GEMflo, shoehorned into the Dr Who theme. But did we mention the key features?
