Cine Gear was buzzing for Power Gems

Power Gems was the buzz of Cine Gear, not only were visitors from the TV and film industry swarming to to the booth – we also had thousands of attend-bees!

At the end of the second day (Saturday 3 June), the bees which had been buzzing around Paramount Studio’s New York Street, descended on the Power Gems booth and set up a colony on our truss. It was momentarily mayhem, with a crowd forming to photograph the event – the most eyes on the booth we’ve ever had. (We may consider trained bees for next year).

The corner of the booth was cordoned off, while the bees decided where to go next. Patrick explained to them that, yes, the new GEMtile, LED ceiling tile, could easily be mistaken for the sun but is in fact a replacement for 600 mm x 600 mm (2ft by 2ft) square fluorescent fittings.

Having cleared up the confusion, we thanked them for dropping in, and the swarm was last seen heading to Paramount Pictures’ biopic of the Bee Gees.

Again, we did try to explain, but the worker bees wouldn’t listen and there were too many of them for the queen to control the workforce (bees swarm when the hive population gets too big, and they split into groups and look for a new home).

As well as that excitement, it was the busiest show we can remember. The Fire Marshall had to briefly stop entry, as Paramount Studios reached capacity.
