Kamala Harris surprises Power Gems at Cine Gear

Cine Gear 2022. How did Power Gems find the annual trade show for the entertainment industry? (Swing a left at Paramount Studios, its usual Hollywood home, and keep going to the LA Convention Centre.)

In 2020 and 2021, the show was either cancelled or the international travel ban meant many of the big names were missing.

This June, the show was penned in by the ninth Summit of Americas event, hosted by President Biden, which was held in the same conference centre and attended by dozens of world leaders. We spotted the cavalcade containing Vice President Kamala Harris hurtling past, her wistful face pressed against the window, clearly wishing to be at Cine Gear but duty-bound, no doubt.

What did Kamala miss?

Patrick and Jeremy perfecting the assembly of Stand B407, much as our deft production line workers in Manchester, UK, hand-assemble our range of HMI ballasts and LED power control systems. But with more sunshine (although at Cine Gear in 2019 we couldn’t help but comment on the uncharacteristically grey skies).

Stand successfully assembled, Patrick and Jeremy hug it out. In Manchester, there’s no time for such frivolities whenever a ballast is ready to be shipped – we have TV and film productions waiting for the product.

Note: while component shortages continue to be a challenge, any orders placed now will be shipped before the end of 2022. Get in touch for an estimate of turnaround times.

Then, it was a case of welcoming visitors and demonstrating the latest innovative Power Gems products:

  • A combined 3kW power supply and 40-channel LED driver for the sound stage, the PWM40. (Placed on a pedestal in the picture shown left)
  • The GEMTile is a 70W LED bi-colour broadcast-quality replacement ceiling tile for standard 600mm/2ft commercial office style fixtures. You can see two on the left-hand side of the picture below.

Don’t miss Munich

We look forward to Cine Gear 2023.

The next stop for the Power Gems team is a new European show for everyone involved in cinematography, TV and film – the EuroCineExpo to be held in Munich in Germany on 1 and 2 July.

Maybe see you there – it’s everyone’s first time, so don’t be shy.

The exhibitions, seminars, masterclasses and rountables are FREE to attend and you can register at www.eurocineexpo.com/registration

Come and say hi. After all, it’s amazing who you could bump into…
